Ingredients

Apple Filling

  • 5 cups fresh apples (sliced) Use a mix of tart and sweet apples for best flavor.
  • 1/2 cup granulated white sugar Adjust based on the sweetness of apples.
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Topping

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free flour.
  • 1/3 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter (melted)

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a deep dish pie plate or a large baking dish with butter or cooking spray and set it aside.
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples with the granulated sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract. Mix well until all the apples are coated evenly. Pour this mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • In a separate medium bowl, mix the flour, oats, brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Pour in the melted butter and stir until the mixture is well combined and crumbly.
  • Sprinkle the crumb topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes. You want the apples to be soft and the topping to be golden brown.
  • Allow the apple crisp to cool slightly before serving. Serve it warm, topped with vanilla ice cream for a delightful treat!

Notes

For an added crunch, mix in some chopped nuts into the topping. Can serve with whipped cream or caramel sauce.
