  • 6 cups sliced apples (e.g., Granny Smith, Honeycrisp) Use a mix of apple varieties for added flavor and texture.
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar Adjust the sugar based on your apples' sweetness.
  • Zest of 1 orange

For the topping

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar 1/4 cup reserved for filling.
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)

For serving

  • Ice cream Best served warm with a scoop of ice cream.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, orange zest, and 1/4 cup of brown sugar. Spread the apple mixture in a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.

Topping

  • In another bowl, mix together the oats, remaining brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, salt, and melted butter until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle the oat mixture evenly over the apples.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-35 minutes until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
  • Serve warm with a scoop of ice cream.

Notes

To store leftover apple crisp, let it cool completely before covering it tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. It can be kept in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. If you want to keep it longer, consider freezing it.
