Ingredients

Beef Brisket and Spice Rub

  • 4-5 lbs beef brisket
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Cooking Liquid and Sauce

  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 300°F (150°C).
  • In a bowl, mix paprika, brown sugar, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper to create a spice rub.
  • Rub the spice mixture all over the brisket.

Cooking

  • Place the brisket in a roasting pan and pour the beef broth around it.
  • Cover tightly with foil and bake for about 3-4 hours, or until the meat is tender.
  • Remove from the oven, uncover, and brush BBQ sauce over the brisket.
  • Increase oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and bake for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Let it rest for 15 minutes before slicing against the grain and serving.

Notes

For extra flavor, let the brisket marinate in the spice rub overnight. Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness; brisket is perfect at an internal temperature of around 190°F (88°C). If you want a smokier flavor, consider using a smoker instead of the oven. You can also serve it on sandwich rolls for delicious brisket sandwiches.
