Ingredients
  

Fruit base

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp) Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for more flavor.

Topping

  • 1 cup brown sugar Divided: ½ cup for apple mixture, ½ cup for oat mixture.
  • 1 cup rolled oats Adds crunch to the topping.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon Divided: ½ teaspoon for apple mixture, ½ teaspoon for oat mixture.
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted To bind the oat mixture.

Optional Serving

  • 1 scoop vanilla ice cream For serving, enhances the dessert.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples with ½ cup of brown sugar and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon.
  • Spread the apple mixture in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  • In another bowl, combine the rolled oats, flour, remaining brown sugar, salt, and the rest of the cinnamon.
  • Pour the melted butter into the oat mixture and stir until it is evenly combined.
  • Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples in the baking dish.

Baking

  • Bake the apple crisp in the preheated oven for about 45 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apples are bubbling.
  • Remove from the oven and let it cool for a bit before serving.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months. Add nuts or extra spices for variation.
