Turkey and Seasoning

  • 1 whole whole turkey (12-14 pounds)
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Make sure the butter is at room temperature for easy mixing.
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
  • to taste salt and pepper

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, rosemary, thyme, sage, salt, and pepper.
  • Carefully loosen the skin of the turkey and rub the garlic herb butter mixture underneath the skin.
  • Rub any remaining butter all over the skin of the turkey.
  • Place the turkey in a roasting pan and pour chicken broth into the bottom of the pan.

Cooking

  • Roast the turkey in the preheated oven for about 3 to 4 hours, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (75°C). Baste the turkey with the pan juices every 30 minutes.
  • Once cooked, let the turkey rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.
  • Garnish with fresh herbs if desired, and serve.

Notes

After your meal, let leftover turkey cool completely. Store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days. You can also freeze it for longer storage, wrapping portions tightly in plastic wrap and placing them in freezer-safe bags, where it can last for up to 3 months. Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature for perfect doneness. For a twist, try adding citrus slices like lemon or orange inside the turkey cavity before roasting.
