Ingredients
  

For the apple base

  • 6 cups peeled and sliced apples Use a mix of sweet and tart apples
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar Used for mixing with apples
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Adds flavor to the apples

For the topping

  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Remaining for the topping mixture
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted To bind the topping
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, mix the sliced apples with 1/4 cup of granulated sugar and cinnamon. Spread the apples in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  • In another bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, remaining granulated sugar, nutmeg, and salt. Stir in the melted butter until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  • Spread the topping evenly over the apples.

Baking

  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
  • Serve warm, optionally with a scoop of ice cream.

Notes

Grandma's Apple Crisp is best served warm. You can add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top for an extra treat. For storage, let it cool completely, then place it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3-4 days, or freeze for up to three months.
