  • 6 cups sliced apples Mix of sweet and tart apples recommended.
  • 1 cup sugar Adjust based on the tartness of the apples.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon Optional to add a pinch of nutmeg or ginger for extra warmth.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup flour Can use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.

Oat Topping

  • 1 cup oats Use gluten-free oats for a gluten-free option.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter Melted butter recommended.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine sliced apples, flour, sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla.
  • Spread the apple mixture into a greased baking dish.

Oat Topping

  • In another bowl, mix oats, brown sugar, flour, and melted butter until crumbly.
  • Sprinkle the oat topping over the apple mixture.

Baking

  • Bake for 30-40 minutes or until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  • Serve warm.

Notes

Best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream. Can store leftovers covered for 3-4 days in the refrigerator, or freeze for later enjoyment.
