  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For browning

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon thyme

Preparation

  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the short ribs and brown on all sides.
  • Transfer the ribs to the slow cooker.
  • Add onions and garlic to the skillet; sauté until softened, about 3 minutes.

Cooking

  • In a bowl, mix beef broth, soy sauce, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, black pepper, salt, paprika, and thyme. Pour this mixture over the ribs.
  • Cover and cook on low for 8 hours or high for 4 hours until the ribs are tender.

Serving

  • Serve hot alongside mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables to soak up the delicious sauce.
  • Pair with crusty bread to complete the meal.

Notes

For added depth of flavor, sear the ribs for a bit longer before placing them in the slow cooker. Feel free to add vegetables like carrots or potatoes to the slow cooker for a complete meal. Adjust the seasoning according to your taste; you can add more spices if you like it spicier.
