Ingredients
  

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 lb ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1 medium onion, chopped Yellow or white onion works best.
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper, chopped Any color bell pepper can be used.

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1 cup ketchup Can substitute with barbecue sauce for a different flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar Adjust sweetness to taste.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Adds depth of flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Serving

  • 6 pieces burger buns Choose your favorite type of bun.

Preparation

  • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef with onions and bell pepper until the meat is cooked through and the vegetables are softened.
  • Drain excess fat.

Slow Cooking

  • In a slow cooker, combine the cooked beef mixture with ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, chili powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Stir well to combine.
  • Cover and cook on low for 4-6 hours or on high for 2-3 hours.

Serving

  • Serve the sloppy joe mixture on burger buns.

Notes

For a spicier version, add a dash of hot sauce or some chopped jalapeƱos. You can use ground turkey or chicken instead of beef for a lighter option. Add diced carrots or celery for extra veggies.
