Ingredients
  

Main Ingredients

  • 4 pieces boneless, skinless chicken breasts Use fresh or frozen.
  • 1 jar marinara sauce (24 oz)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese For topping.
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese For topping.

Seasoning and Miscellaneous

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced Adds flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning To taste.
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning.
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil For searing the chicken.
  • Fresh basil for garnish Optional.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Season the chicken breasts with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning.
  • Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Sear the chicken for about 2-3 minutes on each side until golden brown.

Cooking

  • Place the seared chicken in the bottom of the crock pot.
  • Pour the marinara sauce over the chicken, making sure to cover it completely.
  • Cook on low for 6-7 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
  • About 15 minutes before serving, sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan cheese on top of the chicken.
  • Close the lid and let the cheese melt.

Notes

Serve hot, garnished with fresh basil if desired. For extra flavor, add sliced bell peppers or onions into the crock pot. You can use homemade marinara sauce for a fresher taste and add red pepper flakes for a bit of spice.
