Ingredients
  

Apple Filling

  • 6 pieces apples Use a mix of sweet and tart varieties for better flavor.
  • ½ tsp grated nutmeg Adjust quantity as needed.
  • ½ tsp cinnamon Adjust quantity as needed.
  • 2 Tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 Tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp white sugar
  • 1/2 pieces lemon juice Juice of half a lemon.

Crumble Topping

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Substitute for self-raising flour if needed.
  • 1 cup porridge oat
  • 125 g butter Can use melted butter or cold softened butter.
  • 1 cup light brown sugar Adjust quantity as needed.
  • ¼ tsp salt A pinch to balance the sweetness.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 180°C (375°F) and prepare your baking dish.
  • Peel, core, and chop the apples. Transfer them into the baking pan.
  • Add the flour, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the apples. Mix to combine, then add half of the lemon juice and stir again.

Crumble Topping

  • In another bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, cold butter, and a pinch of salt. Use your fingers to rub the mixture until it resembles breadcrumbs.
  • Sprinkle the crumble topping on the apple filling.

Baking

  • Bake in the oven for 35 to 40 minutes until the topping is crispy and golden, and the apple filling is bubbly.
  • Remove from the oven, let it stand for a few minutes, and serve with vanilla ice cream or custard.

Notes

For best taste, serve warm topped with vanilla ice cream or custard. If you have leftovers, let the crumble cool completely, cover tightly, and refrigerate for up to three days.
