  • 1 pound ground beef or Italian sausage
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 28 ounces crushed tomatoes
  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 cups uncooked pasta (like rotini or shells)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil

  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese For serving

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a large pot, cook the ground beef or sausage over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.
  • Add chopped onion and minced garlic, and sauté until the onion is translucent.

Cooking

  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, broth, pasta, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 10-12 minutes or until the pasta is tender.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the ricotta cheese until well blended.

Serving

  • Serve hot, topped with shredded mozzarella cheese and a sprinkle of Parmesan. Garnish with fresh basil if desired.

Notes

For extra flavor, consider using homemade broth or adding a splash of wine while cooking. Add red pepper flakes for spice, or substitute with ground turkey or chicken for a lighter meal. Try adding vegetables like spinach or mushrooms for extra nutrition. Store in an airtight container for up to 4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
